| Fats Waller famously said it: "If you have to ask, you'll never know." But he actually meant it the other way around, what he was really saying was: unless you ask, you'll never know. This marvelously entertaining program for both parents and kids will answer this most basic question in an exciting and swinging fashion. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis won't just tell you – or even show you – what jazz is, rather they will make you feel the true meaning of jazz way down deep in your soul.

The competition and festival culminates in an astonishing display of musicianship and virtuosity by the three top placing high school jazz big bands, who perform on the hallowed stage of Avery Fisher Hall with guest soloist Wynton Marsalis; the concert also features a full set of music by the acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
