For students ready to take their knowledge of Jazz history up a notch, Jazz at Lincoln Center's curator Phil Schaap offers Jazz 201. Following the same storyline as Jazz 101, this course offers deeper listening, more listening instructions, and discusses a greater breadth of Jazz musicians.
Evan Sherman, 19, plays the drums with contagious joy, astounding technique, and maturity far beyond his age. He has shared the stage with icons such as Jimmy Heath, Cyrus Chestnut, Roy Hargrove and has toured internationally with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars. Based in NYC, Sherman currently attends the Manhattan School of Music. This week at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, his trio—Emmet Cohen (piano) and Russell Hall (bass)—will be celebrating the incredible music of Duke Ellington, interpreting many of Duke's classic compositions as well as some of his unknown gems.
