- In little over 15 years, the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra has continued to build its reputation as a stellar ensemble. This debut performance at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, celebrates the centennial of Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002) and combines the rich heritage of Catalan music and some of America’s best jazz musicians. Together with special guests Phil Woods, Frank Wess, and Jon Faddis, the orchestra will explore Montsalvatge’s most significant compositions, premiere new compositions dedicated to Dizzy Gillespie, and perform some previously recorded pieces. Phil Woods, saxophone; Frank Wess, tenor saxophone, and Jon Faddis, trumpet. This event is sponsored by the Institut Ramón Llull. WBGO is proud to partner once again with Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series generally features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO personality Rhonda Hamilton and includes a Q&A sessions with musicians.
