"What makes Chestnut the best jazz pianist of his generation is a willingness to abandon notes and play space" (Time Magazine).
Cyrus Chestnut’s Berklee Sextet is an audition-based ensemble course at Berklee College of Music, dedicated to the sextet music of the acclaimed pianist and composer Cyrus Chestnut. The course features a semester of intensive performance work on Chestnut’s compositions, culminating in performances in Washington, DC and New York City, with Chestnut leading the band from the piano. Though Chestnut has a reputation for mixing styles, audiences at Dizzy’s can expect to hear jazz with a gospel influence, performed by the legendary pianist and five of Berklee’s most accomplished students.
