Born in Pittsburgh, PA, home to jazz greats Art Blakey, Ray Brown, Billy Strayhorn, and Ahmad Jamal, Johnson has strong territorial jazz roots. He was first introduced by his father, a gospel pianist in the church, to the piano at the age of five. Since then, he has cultivated a rick and pedigreed musical background, being schooled by some of the most legendary jazz musicians. After graduating from Berklee School of Music, Richard entered the Boston Conservatory, where he earned a Masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy. For his sets at Dizzy's, Johnson will be playing the music of Mulgrew Miller.
Late Night Sessions are the new After Hours at Dizzy’s Club Coca–Cola. Scheduled after after the headlining artist’s last set Tuesday through Saturday, these performances feature some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists. No reservations necessary.
