Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola
Ben Wolfe Quintet featuring Nicholas Payton
With Ben Wolfe, bass; Dave Kikoski, piano; Donald Edwards, drums; Stacy Dillard, tenor and soprano saxophone; and Nicholas Payton, trumpet
Ben Wolfe is a seasoned bassist-composer who, according to Wynton Marsalis, "swings with authority," and has won critical praise for his eclectic work, which has ranged from a 25-minute suite for double quartet, to a short film soundtrack. Including his recent MAXJAZZ release "From Here I See," Wolfe has released seven CDs comprised solely of his original music. Of his MAXJAZZ debut "No Strangers Here," The New York Times wrote: "In this music Mingus and Miles Davis meet Bartok and Bernard Herrmann." Early in his career, Wolfe formed a duo with Harry Connick, Jr., working together on numerous albums and world tours. He was then a part of the Wynton Marsalis Septet, Diana Krall's touring band (he can be heard on her GRAMMY(r) Award-winning When I Look In Your Eyes), and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Wolfe will be joined at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola by a special guest: GRAMMY(r) Award-winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton.
