With Nikolaj Hess, piano; Peter Washington, bass; and Matt Wilson, drums
The award-winning British jazz chanteuse Claire Martin has been called “the most gifted jazz singer this country has produced in twenty years” by Clive Davis. Influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, and Shirley Horn, she possesses a peerless sense of swing, pure tone, and a true improviser’s ear, yet her love of great lyrics means that she always puts the song first. Supported by all-stars Nikolaj Hess, Peter Washington, Matt Wilson, and Steve Wilson—whose collective credits are, without exception, far too numerous to mention—and supplemented by Martin’s off-the-cuff humor, this will be a performance of the highest caliber.
Live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15pm EST on jalc.org/live. WBGO is proud to partner once again with Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on Monday Nights with WBGO. The series features talented new artists as well as groups from some of the area's great college jazz programs. Each performance is hosted by WBGO announcer Rhonda Hamilton and includes a Q&A session with musicians.
