Sammy Miller has become known for his maturity and relentless focus on making music that “feels good.” Miller received his BA from The New School and is currently a Masters student at The Juilliard School. At the ripe age of 21, Sammy has already performed/recorded with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Johnny O’Neal, Christian Schott, Bobby Watson, David Benoit, and Ozomotli. A Los Angeles native, Miller was presented with the LA Jazz Society’s "Shelly Manne New Talent Award" in 2009. For their sets at Dizzy's, Miller and his group will honor the music of drum legend Shelly Manne, whose 93rd birthday would have been this year. Says Miller of Manne: “Shelly towers among jazz’s giants for his remarkable versatility behind the drum set and unique integrity and character.” On hearing of this special week of music honoring her husband, Flip Manne said, “I know Shelly would feel deeply honored to have this super talented, young musician doing a tribute like this, playing new and innovative versions of his music. Sammy is an outstanding example of the new generation of jazz.”
Late Night Sessions are the new After Hours at Dizzy’s Club Coca–Cola. Scheduled after after the headlining artist’s last set Tuesday through Saturday, these performances feature some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists. No reservations necessary.
