Born in Perth, Western Australia, Matthew Jodrell recently completed his Masters and Artist Diploma degrees at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music. In addition to featuring on numerous recordings, Jodrell released and toured his debut record, Blues In The Night. Jodrell is the recipient of the NFAA Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship, the Young Australian of the Year Award for Western Australia, the James Morrison scholarship for most outstanding young Australian jazz instrumentalist, and the Bob Wyllie scholarship for best graduating student. Since moving to New York, Jodrell has had the opportunity to perform with Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Branford Marsalis, James Spaulding, Carl Allen, and many others. From 2008-2012 he performed regularly with the hit show Hair on Broadway. For their sets at Dizzy’s, Jodrell’s quartet will ‘keep up with the Joneses,’ paying tribute to the legacy of the Jones brothers: Thad Jones, Elvin Jones, and Hank Jones.
Late Night Sessions are the new After Hours at Dizzy’s Club Coca–Cola. Scheduled after after the headlining artist’s last set Tuesday through Saturday, these performances feature some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists. No reservations necessary.
