Overview

Israel's acclaimed Gesher Theatre returns to New York after sensational multiple appearances at the Lincoln Center Festival with the U.S. Premiere of Enemies, A Love Story, based on a novel by Nobel Prize-winning author, Isaac Bashevis Singer. Enemies, a dark comedy enriched with despair. Almost before he knows it, Holocaust survivor Herman Broder has three wives: Yadwiga, a gentile who hid Broder from the Nazis; Masha, his beautiful, neurotic true love; and Tamara, his first wife, miraculously back from the dead. Resigned to a life of evasion, Herman navigates a Yiddish New York with a sense of impending doom.
The work is adapted for the stage by Yevgeny Arye, the artistic director and founder of Gesher Theatre, which, since its inception in 1991, became an inseparable part of Israeli culture.
The play will be performed in Hebrew with individual English and Russian in-ear translation.
