2009-10 Repertoire:

After All (1941)

by Billy Strayhorn
Walking ballad with trombone and alto solos and rich harmonies.

Walkin' and Swingin' (1936)

by Mary Lou Williams
Easy going, medium swing tune with a memorable unison sax melody. Nice second chorus featuring one trumpet with sax section in soli.

Lady Mac, from "Such Sweet Thunder" (1957)

by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn
Bluesy waltz with piano, flugelghorn and alto solos. Challenging ensemble parts.

Feet Bone (1958)

by Duke Ellington
Medium shuffle blues with solis for each horn section.

Roll 'Em (1938)

by Mary Lou Williams
Hard driving boogie-woogie based on the blues. Williams wrote this for the Benny Goodman Orchestra, and it remained in his repertory for years.

New Musical Express (1967)

by Mary Lou Williams
Written with Duke Ellington's Orchestra in mind, this fast and furious, altered blues head gives way to several choruses of blues improvisation featuring tenor sax. Interesting background writing throughout.
