We are excited to announce next year’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program materials! For the 2011-12 season, EE will feature the music of Duke Ellington and, for the first time, Dizzy Gillespie.

Selections include:

  • Sepia Panorama - Composed and arranged by Duke Ellington
  • Sunset and The Mockingbird, from The Queen’s Suite - Composed by Duke Ellington, arranged by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn
  • A Night In Tunisia - Composed and arranged by Dizzy Gillespie
  • Oop Bop Sh’Bam - Composed by Dizzy Gillespie, arranged by Gil Fuller
  • Things To Come - Composed by Dizzy Gillespie, arranged by Gil Fuller

Each year Essentially Ellington members receive a free resource package that includes six charts, reference recordings and rehearsal videos as well as:

- Essentially Ellington Newsletters

- Online score studies of EE charts featuring step-by-step teaching guides

- Eligibility to participate in non-competitive Essentially Ellington Regional Festivals

- Option to submit a recording for the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival in New York City and receive professional feedback for free

- Discount to attend Jazz at Lincoln Center's Band Director Academy
