This season we invite you to bring the sound and spirit of jazz to your students with two engaging and interactive concert-going opportunities: Jazz for Young People® at Frederick P. Rose Hall and Jazz for Young People® On Tour (formerly Jazz in the Schools). Each concert can be enjoyed on its own, or paired at a 10% discount with a related concert for a deeper jazz experience.

Our Spring theme is Latin jazz. Bassist Carlos Henriquez celebrates the music of Tito Puente, while trombonist Luis Bonilla shows how he translates the musical legacy of Tito and other Latin jazz greats into his own personal statement.

We hope these thematic connections will help enrich your students’ experience with this music and build bridges to your work in the classroom. FREE professional development sessions are offered prior to each concert.

Performances are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so turn in your form(s) early! See below for seats still available for each performance. Please contact Andrea Pelloquin at (212) 258-9974 or email jfypschools@jalc.org with any questions.

More than just a great bandleader and master percussionist, Tito Puente was the Latin jazz bandleader for over four decades, freely mixing jazz and Cuban music into a strong, spicy concoction. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist Carlos Henriquez and friends will demonstrate why Mr. Puente was called ‘El Rey de Salsa’ and the ‘King of Mambo.’
