Back 'N The Groove: Learn to Swing Dance

Swing dancing is a storied American tradition that will always remain modern. Throughout New York City there are many places to learn swing dance "steps." But at Jazz at Lincoln Center you will learn how to swing to the music that moves your hips without your permission. Our instructors have been dancing with jazz all of their lives and will pass on to you the legacy that was, and is, Swing.

About the Program

Back 'N the Groove: Learn to Swing Dance is the first course of its kind at Jazz at Lincoln Center.  Developed and led by award-winning swing dancers Christopher Lockhart and Lenore Pemberton Cilmi, this welcoming and innovative four-class course promises to increase your fun on the dance floor and broaden your dance vocabulary through a heightened relationship with jazz music.

Dubbed the "chic-est of dance couples," Christopher Lockhart and Lenore Pemberton Cilimi have been featured in such publications as Vogue; Glamour Magazine; O, The Oprah Magazine; and the New York Times. The rhythmically astute couple has won a variety of competitions at venues ranging from the more formal DanceSport (shown on HBO), to the more social Swing 46, and even the fondly remembered Louisiana Bar and Grill.
