JALC presents JazzStories—Todd Barkan Part II
Todd Barkan has been intimately involved with jazz for over 40 years, as a musician, presenter, promoter, club owner, manager and record producer. The former owner of San Francisco’s legendary Keystone Korner, Todd is now the Director of Programming at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. In the second part of a conversation with JALC’s Steve Rathe, Barkan discusses how he got his start, shares memories of Keystone Korner and the musicians that made it a West Coast “House of Swing”—Dexter Gordon, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Miles Davis (“a real sweetheart”), Art Blakey, and more—and discusses his current efforts to promote jazz to a wider audience.
