Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra to Make Its International Debut at London’s The Barbican

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra (JLYCO) makes its international debut at the Barbican in London, England on February 27- March 1, 2018. As part of the bi-annual Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis residency at the Barbican, 22 NYC-area high school jazz musicians will spend a week abroad for a music and cultural exchange with public performances, workshops, and jam sessions.

Dave Douglas Performs His First-Ever Tribute to Dizzy Gillespie with All-Star Group

New York, NY (January 29, 2018) - Trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas returns to The Appel Room, February 23�“24, with Ambrose Akinmusire, Joey Baron, Gerald Clayton, Bill Frisell, and Linda May Han Oh to explore the music and legacy of the legendary jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie through a 21st century lens. Douglas created this project dedicated to one of the towering figures in 20th century music and an international cultural ambassador.

Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola February 2018 Lineup Announced

New York, NY (December 21, 2017) - In Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola this February, the Gotham Kings will return for their annual Mardi Gras Celebration (February 13), followed by a night filled with Songs We Love featuring Vuyo Sotashe and Brianna Thomas (February 14). Marilyn Maye, also known as the “Queen of Cabaret,” will return to the intimate stage of Dizzy’s for four nights (February 15-18), after headlining four sets in The Appel Room earlier this season. Highlights the third week of February include artists paying tribute to jazz greats, such as Julian Bliss Septet: A Tribute to Benny Goodman (February 19); and A Love Supine: A Dixieland Love Supreme (February 20), a show influenced by Coltrane’s classic A Love Supreme, Eddie Condon, Boyce Brown, Pee Wee Russell, and Jelly Roll Morton, with compositions arranged by Allen Lowe.

Paquito D'Rivera Reimagines Charlie Parker's Bird with Strings

New York, NY (February 20, 2018) - NEA Jazz Master, Carnegie Hall Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and 14-time Grammy Award winner Paquito D'Rivera returns to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater with To Bird with Strings for two nights only, March 16-17. To Bird with Strings is a tribute to Charlie Parker’s Bird with Strings, one of D’Rivera’s favorite albums and Parker’s best-selling record - the program was previously performed to sold-out audiences in The Appel Room in 2013. The program will feature selections from the original album, unrecorded arrangements from the project, and new takes on Parker’s work with Latin jazz legends like Machito and Chico O’Farrill. D’Rivera will be joined by his ensemble, including pianist Alex Brown, drummer Eric Doob, bassist Zach Brown, percussionist Rolando Morales, violinist Andrei Matorin, oboist Tom Christensen, and harpist Riza Printup, along with a full string ensemble. A free pre-concert discussion will take place at 7pm each night in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio, located in the Irene Diamond Education Center.
