This concert features essential big band music by Duke Ellington and Count Basie, two titans not only in jazz but in the history of Jazz at Lincoln Center, in its concert halls and education programs, including the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival.

Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola April 2018 Lineup Announced
New York, NY (March 21, 2017) - In celebration of National Jazz Appreciation Month, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola showcases rising stars and veteran artists in the jazz world, celebrating the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz throughout April. The Monday lineups feature university big bands and rising stars coupled with heavy hitters of the jazz world �“ Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet with drummer Carl Allen (April 2); Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra with saxophonist Joe Lovano (April 9); Emmet Cohen Trio with drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath (April 16); Purchase Jazz Orchestra with organist Mike LeDonne under the direction of trumpeter Jon Faddis (April 23); and Temple University Big Band with vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway under the direction of trumpeter Terell Stafford (April 30).

The Swing Collective Makes Appel Room Debut
New York, NY (March 5, 2018) - Jazz at Lincoln Center presents the Appel Room debut of The Swing Collective, a new quintet of talented young musicians representing five countries of origin, March 23-24. The Swing Collective - featuring Grammy Award-winning American drummer, composer, and bandleader Ulysses Owens, Jr., Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana, Trinidadian trumpeter Etienne Charles, Cuban pianist Elio Villafranca, and Japanese bassist Yasushi Nakamura - made their first appearance in Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in 2017 and are back by popular demand. For two nights in The Appel Room, these artists will debut brand new works composed specifically for this collective.
