World Premiere of Carlos Henriquez: The South Bronx Story, The Appel Room, November 16

New York, NY (October 10, 2018) - Jazz at Lincoln Center announces Carlos Henriquez: The South Bronx Story, a world premiere concert by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist and composer Carlos Henriquez taking place in The Appel Room, November 16-17 at 7pm and 9:30pm each night. The South Bronx Story is a retrospective of the social history of the South Bronx, and draws from Henriquez’s personal Puerto Rican heritage. Joining Henriquez for these special concert events will be trombonist Marshall Gilkes, pianist Robert Rodriguez, drummer Obed Calvaire, and trumpeters Michael Rodriguez and Terrell Stafford.

Dizzy's Club February 2019 Lineup Announced

New York, NY (December 21, 2018) - Dizzy’s Club offers a number of exclusive shows this February, starting with special guest appearances by Wynton Marsalis and the beloved Sesame Street character, Elmo, in Joe Fielder’s Open Sesame (February 4); the only U.S. performance dates for Brussels Jazz Orchestra & Tutu Puoane (February 11-12); and the album release party and ten year celebration of Allison Miller’s Boom Tic Boom (February 26). In addition, three artists will make their Dizzy’s Club headliner debuts in February - tenor saxophonist María Grand (February 5), pianist John Chin (February 19), and David Binney’s Angelino Quartet (February 21).

Dizzy's Club April 2019 Lineup Announced

New York, NY (March 11, 2019) - During Jazz Appreciation Month, Dizzy’s Club offers 17 unique shows, including opportunities to see members of the esteemed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in an intimate club - JLCO trombonist Elliot Mason with his brother Brad Mason (April 10-11) in a program celebrating the music of Coltrane, Monk and Ellington; as well as alto saxophonist Sherman Irby with trombonist Vincent Gardner (April 12-14). Additional highlights for the month include the Dizzy’s Club debut of the Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Ben Vereen with members of the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble (April 4-7), as well as the album release party for Yotam Silberstein Quartet featuring John Patitucci (April 2-3). The Yale Jazz Ensemble featuring Randy Brecker and Wayne Escoffery (April 15) honors the 80th anniversary of Blue Note and pianist Monty Alexander brings his trio for a weekend blending jazz and the rhythms of the Caribbean (April 18-21). Dizzy’s Club also hosts the winner of the American Pianists Association Competition (April 16) - the competition finalists are Kenny Banks, Jr., Emmet Cohen, Billy Test, David Meder, and Keelan Dimick. The winner will be announced to the public on April 6.

Dizzy’s Club July 2019 Lineup Announced

New York, NY (May 23, 2019) - In the month of July, Dizzy’s Club offers 14 unique shows, featuring the greatest talents in jazz as well as their protégés. Brooklyn-born, Harlem-raised vocalist, guitarist, and composer Allan Harris pays tribute to Eddie Jefferson and Nat “King” Cole (July 9), while clarinetist Adrian Cox celebrates the music of Edmond Hall (July 23). Trumpeter Jon Faddis returns to his mentor Dizzy Gillespie’s namesake venue (July 18-21), and Dr. Eddie Henderson takes the stage for a set of straight-ahead jazz and soulful post bop (July 12-13). In collaboration with Brasil Summerfest, Dizzy’s Club presents the New York City debut of the Amaro Freitas Trio (July 31).

Dizzy's Club April 2020 Lineup Announced

New York, NY (February 24, 2020) - Dizzy’s Club celebrates Jazz Appreciation month with a diverse repertoire and lineup featuring international artists, contemporary jazz musicians, and rising stars. Highlights include Christian McBride, Benny Green and Greg Hutchinson’s tribute to Ray Brown (April 7-12); and the Flamenco Festival New York with guitarist Chicuelo, pianist Marco Mezquida, and percussionist Paco de Mode (April 1-2). The American Pianists Association presents a three-day celebration highlighting five of the past winners of the APA Competition: Sullivan Fortner (April 3 at 7:30 p.m.), Dan Tepfer, (April 3 at 9:30 p.m.), Aaron Parks (April 4 at 7:30 p.m.), the Emmet Cohen Trio (April 5 at 9:30 p.m.) and Adam Birnbaum (April 5 at 9:30pm). Additionally, South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini leads the album release party of his Blue Note debut recording (April 16-17) with special guest Vuyo Sotashe. Tenor saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, accompanied by a string section, (April 22) makes his Dizzy’s club debut for the release of his album Spirit Garden.
